How do I get a My Aged Care Home Care Package?
A Home Care Package is a government-funded program designed to support you to live at home safely and independently. You can access a wide range of home care services.
To apply for a Home Care Package
- Register with My Aged Care by filling out an online form, or call 1800 200 422
- Get an assessment - An assessor will visit your home to establish your eligibility and needs. If you’re assessed as eligible, you will be placed on the national priority system (which is a waitlist to receive a package). During the assessment you can nominate AMES Australia as your “preferred provider.”
If you have not decided on a provider, it is a good time to start researching service providers while waiting to be assigned a package. - Get your approval - Once a package becomes available, My Aged Care will send you a letter to inform you are assigned a package.
- Enter a service agreement with your selected provider - You can now enter into a service agreement with your chosen provider. You have 56 days (or 84 days with the extension) to do this from when your package was assigned.
You can research service providers here, chat with friends or ask your healthcare professionals.
