Professional Mentors
In Australia’s current employment market, professional mentors make a significant difference to the progression of newly arrived skilled and professional migrant careers. Our program aims to match mentors from a range of professions with skilled migrants from equivalent or related professions.
Mentees come from the AMES Australia Skilled Professional Migrants Program (SPMP) where they develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to overcome the difficulties that may prevent them from finding a suitable job.
While the SPMP gives them valuable information on the Australian job market and workplace culture, job hunting tips, the application process and interview and networking skills, mentors add significant value by providing much needed ‘inside information’ on job availability and conditions, industry specific recruitment insights and high quality networking opportunities.
How much time do I need to spend volunteering?
The commitment is to make contact with the mentee once a week. Matches vary in length but a general commitment of 6 months is expected.
Do I need any special skills or training?
We are currently recruiting only for volunteers who are experienced in and currently working in Australia in one of these professions:
- Marketing and Communications
- Recruitment / Human Resource
- Project Management / IT
- Academic / Education
All mentors take part in a thorough induction session, which provides insight on cross-cultural awareness, particularly relating to job search and workplace issues.
