Premier Daniel Andrews says Victoria is aiming to drive COVID-19 cases down to “zero or very low”.
He said health authorities were finalising a plan that includes easing restrictions once acceptable case number thresholds are reached.
Victoria recorded 76 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and zero in hotel quarantine overnight.
Forty-five cases are linked to known outbreaks and 31 are mystery cases. Just 36 were in isolation.
There are now 841 active cases of coronavirus across the state after 50,848 COVID-19 tests were returned and 32,162 vaccines doses were administered.
NSW recorded 1164 new cases of COVID-19 overnight and three deaths, bring the total number of deaths to 97 since this outbreak began.
Sixty-seven per cent of people in NSW have now had a first vaccination.
There are 871 people in NSW hospitals with COVID-19, 143 in ICU and 58 on ventilators.
The ACT recorded 13 new cases and the lockdown has been extended to September 17.
Queensland recorded no new cases for the 24th day in a row.

Victoria recorded another 73 local COVID-19 cases overnight with 52 linked to existing outbreaks. Twenty-one are yet to be linked to known outbreaks.
Victoria’s lockdown will continue past Thursday but there is speculation that some restrictions will be eased.
Exposure sites in Victoria now number almost 940. The numbers came after 41,395 tests were returned yesterday and 26,702 doses of vaccine administered.
There are 49 Victorians in hospital, 15 in ICU and 11 on a ventilator.
From today GPs and pharmacists will be able to administer the Pfizer vaccine to people over 16.
NSW recorded a record 1290 cases overnight and four deaths – after 1218 cases and six deaths were reported yesterday.
There are 840 people in hospital in NSW, 137 in ICU and 48 on ventilators. There were 157,221 tests returned yesterday.
There are now 60 cases in western NSW, including 33 in Dubbo.
The ACT recorded 12 new cases.
Queensland recorded no new cases for the 23rd day in a row.

Victoria recorded 79 new local COVID-19 cases overnight.
Fifty-three are linked to known outbreaks and 26 are mystery cases.
There are 660 active coronavirus cases across the state after 50,535 tests were returned yesterday and 33,611 vaccines administered.
The number of exposure sites listed across Victoria rose to 868 today with new tier-2 sites of concern in the regional towns of Kyabram and Echuca.
Australia’s health experts have approved the two-dose Pfizer vaccine for anyone aged over 12.
NSW recorded 882 locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and two deaths. There were 143,000 vaccinations administered bringing the total to 6.4 million, and 180,000 tests returned.
The ACT recorded 14 new cases as the territory entered a third week of lock down. There are now 190 cases in the ACT.

Forty-one people were not in isolation while infectious. There are now 600 active cases across the state.
Shepparton has recorded 20 new cases with a total of 67 cases now in the town.
Two hundred and forty of Victoria’s cases are people under 20-years. Thirty-six people are in hospital, 11 in ICU and 8 on a ventilator.
The 15,800 people isolating as primary close contacts across Victoria.
There were 56,248 tests returned yesterday and 33,932 vaccines administered.

Victoria has recorded 45 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and zero in hotel quarantine – the third day in a row that numbers have come down.
Thirty-six of the new cases are linked to existing outbreaks and there are nine mystery cases.
Twenty-eight people were out in the community while infectious and there are now 538 active cases of COVID-19 in Victoria.
There were 53,321 tests returned yesterday and 31,629 vaccines administered.
Victoria’s vaccine booking system has been hit with an avalanche of people seeking a jab after Victorians aged 16 to 39 became eligible for the Pfizer vaccine from today.
All year 12 students will be vaccinated before their final exams start on October 4.
NSW recorded 919 new local COVID-19 cases and one more death – a man in his 80s.
125,000 vaccines were administered in NSW yesterday, bringing the total to 6.1 million. A third of NSW is now fully vaccinated.
There are 645 people in hospital in NSW, with 113 in ICU – 98 of them not vaccinated.
Queensland recorded no new locally acquitted cases. Queensland has paused hotel quarantine facilities for people relocating from other states.

Victoria has recorded 50 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and one in hotel quarantine – down from 71 cases yesterday.
Forty cases are linked to known outbreaks and there are ten mystery cases under investigation. Thirty-nine of the cases were not isolating while infectious.
830,000 more doses of Pfizer and AZ will be available from tomorrow. The Pfizer doses are aimed at anyone between 16 and 39.
There are now 522 active cases of coronavirus across Victoria after 48,424 tests were returned yesterday and 29,810 vaccines administered. 113 of the cases are aged under 9 and 101 aged 10 to 19.
There are 34 people are in hospital, 9 in ICU and 7 on a ventilator.
NSW recorded 753 locally acquired COVID-19 cases overnight and no deaths with up to 680 cases in the community while infectious.
NSW has now reached the six million vaccination mark and Premier Gladys Berejiklian has said restrictions for fully vaccinated people would be lifted from September.
107 people in NSW are in NSW, 95 are not vaccinated and 12 have only one dose. There are 24 new cases in western NSW, the majority in Dubbo.

Victoria has recorded 71 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 overnight and zero in hotel quarantine.
Forty-nine are linked to known outbreaks and 22 are mystery cases. Only 16 of the cases were in isolation while infectious.
There are now 495 active cases of COVID-19 in Victoria after 46,446 tests were returned and 22,191 vaccine doses administered – meaning that 50 per cent of Victorians have had at least one jab.

Victoria has recorded 55 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and two in hotel quarantine overnight.
Forty-nine local cases are linked to known outbreaks and there are six mystery cases.
Twenty-five people were in isolation for the entirety of their infectious period and 30 people were infectious in the community.
One case has been detected in the regional town of Shepparton. Regional Victoria has not been under the same lockdowns restrictions as Melbourne since August 10.
NSW has recorded 642 new locally acquired cases with at last 42 infectious in the community. There were four deaths overnight.
There are 470 people in hospital in NSW, with 70 in ICU. The majority of these are not vaccinated.
Sydney will now face tougher restrictions. From Monday, the city’s lockdown will extend until the end of September and a curfew will be imposed.
Queensland has recorded one new locally acquired case of COVID-19 – a person isolating at home.
The ACT recorded 12 new COVID-9 cases as the city went into its second week of lockdown.

Victoria’s lockdown will be extended for another two weeks at least until September 2 with tougher restrictions in place.
From midnight tonight there will be a curfew between 9pm and 5am, exercise will be limited to two members from a household and people will not be able to remove masks to drink alcohol outdoors.
Playgrounds, basketball courts and exercise areas will close. Permits for authorised workers will be required.
Large construction projects will be limited to 25 per cent of workforces and small sites will be limited to five workers.
Police will crack down on illegal gatherings with increased fines after several large events over the weekend. An enforcement blitz is planned for next weekend.
The state recorded 22 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases overnight with eight infectious in the community. Seventeen of the cases are linked to known outbreaks and five are mystery cases.
Health authorities have criticised public gatherings over the weekend which breached public health rules.

Victoria recorded 15 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases overnight with eight in quarantine during their infectious period and seven out in the community.
Twelve of the 15 cases are linked to existing outbreaks and three remain under investigation.

There are now 137 active cases of COVID-19 across the state.

Melbourne will remain in lockdown for another week after Victoria recorded 20 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases overnight.
Fifteen were linked to current outbreaks and five are still under investigation. Fourteen were isolating throughout their infectious period.
There are now 118 active cases of coronavirus across Victoria, one case is I hospital. There were 41,571 tests returned yesterday, among 250,000 tests in the past week.
NSW has reported 344 new local COVID-19 cases overnight as Premier Gladys Berejiklian says the surge in case numbers is expected to continue.
Health officials say they are starting to see a declining number of cases in the Fairfield local government area and also Canterbury-Bankstown local government area.
There were two deaths overnight: a man in his 30s from northern Sydney, and a man in his 90s from Sydney’s south-west. Neither was vaccinated.

Victoria has recorded six new locally acquired COVID-19 cases after the state went into lock down last night following an outbreak in Melbourne’s west. Two of cases were reported yesterday.
The new cases include a primary school student and are all linked to previously reported cases but were not in quarantine during their infectious periods.
There are now 72 active cases in Victoria. There were 29,631 tests returned yesterday and there are now 84 exposure sites across the city. 10,000 people are isolating as primary close contacts.
The new Victorian outbreak may be related to a 31-year-old Sydney man who tested positive after arriving in Melbourne on his way to Launceston on Monday.
And 31 people have been charged over anti-lockdown protests overnight.

Victoria will enter a sixth, week-long lockdown from 8pm tonight after a new series of COVID-19 case clusters emerged in Melbourne’s west.
Eight cases have been uncovered – five are mystery cases.
There will be only five reasons to leave home: getting the food and the supplies you need, exercising for up to two hours, care or caregiving, work or education if you can’t do it from home, or to get vaccinated at the nearest possible location.
Shopping and exercise must be done within 5kms of your home or the nearest location.
It also means face masks will remain mandatory indoors (not at home) and outdoors unless an exception applies – this includes all workplaces, and secondary schools.
Schools will close and revert to online learning and gyms, community sport and public gatherings will close.
Visitors will not be allowed in homes.

Victoria has recorded six new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 overnight. Three of them are linked to existing cases and already in isolation.
One is a teacher from Al Taqwa College in Melbourne’s west revealed yesterday. Another is a household contact of the teacher who plays for the Newport Football Club.
The third case is a man who lives in Maribyrnong and who also plays for the Newport Football Club.
Three schools have been closed and thousands of students and teachers are in isolation.
There were 27,270 tests returned yesterday and 17,229 doses of vaccine administered across the state. There are now 80 active cases across Victoria.
Fruit and vegetable giant SPC will be the first company in Australia to require all onsite personnel – including staff and visitors – to be fully vaccinated by the end of November.

Victoria has recorded three new cases of COVID-19, one reported yesterday in the Bass Coast Shire south-east of Melbourne.
All of the cases are linked to known outbreaks and were in isolation for their infectious periods.
The community-acquired case linked to the Moonee Valley testing centre, announced earlier this week, has been linked to the latest outbreak.
No cases were detected in hotel quarantine and there are now 200 total cases of COVID-19 across Victoria.
There were 43,542 coronavirus tests carried out yesterday and 19,136 vaccinations administered.

A high school in Brisbane has been closed after a 17-year-old female student tested positive to COVID-19. Health authorities are investigating how she contracted the virus.

There were two new cases in hotel quarantine after 43,674 tests were returned yesterday and 14,230 vaccines administered. There are now 146 active cases in the state.
Victorian health authorities have identified more than a dozen new COVID-19 exposure sites, bringing the state’s total to 377.

Victoria has recorded six new cases of COVID-19 after going into a five day hard lockdown from midnight last night after two new chains of infection originating in NSW were detected.
The six cases are all linked to existing outbreaks.
Ten locally acquired cases were formally reported today, but four of those were revealed yesterday.
There are now 36 active cases of COVID-19 in Victoria. There were 33,129 tests returned yesterday and 17,188 vaccine doses administered.
The restrictions mean there are again only five reasons to leave your home. They are: shopping for food and supplies within the 5-kilometre radius, one person per household, once per day; exercise (up to two hours, with one other person or members of your household); compassionate care, caregiving and medical reasons; authorised work, or; to get vaccinated.
Retail has closed except for food and pharmaceuticals, hospitality is take-away only and gyms, pools and entertainment venues have closed. Schools have returned to remote learning. A 5km travel limit applies and all the restrictions also apply to regional Victoria.
Masks must be worn indoors and outside when it is impossible to keep a 1.5m distance from others.
NSW reported 97 new cases of community transmission of COVID-19 with 29 of the cases active in the community for two or more days. Cases have been reported in hospitals.
More than 77,500 tests were returned yesterday.

Victoria will go into a five day hard lockdown from midnight tonight after 18 cases of COVID-19 have resulted from two recent outbreaks.
Two more cases were detected this afternoon – an additional case from the MCG and a personal contact of a resident of the Maribyrnong apartment block.
The transmission of the virus at the football match at the MCG on July 10 is a particular cause of concern.
The restrictions will be identical to the recent two week lockdown with all but essential workers to stay home.
There are just five reasons to leave home: shopping, essential care, exercise, health care reasons or to get tested.
Retail will close, hospitality will be take away only and gyms, pools and entertainment venues will close. School will go to remote learning. A 5km travel restriction will apply.
There are seven rings of contract tracing around the two new chains of transmission which now number 18 cases.
There are now 75 exposure sites, 1500 primary close contacts, 5000 secondary close contacts and 6,500 Victorians in isolation.
The list of high-risk exposure sites now includes more than 70 exposure sites including public transport routes, a CBD pub, the MCG, Highpoint Shopping Centre and DFO University Hill in Bundoora.
Victorian workers will be able to access federal income support – usually given after two weeks in lockdown – within five days.
Federal government sources have confirmed Victorian workers will be able to apply for the payments on day five of the lockdown, and payments will be made retrospectively.
NSW reported 65 new community cases with 28 who were infectious in the community. The result came after more than 58,000 tests.
Stay at home restrictions will stay in place in greater Sydney until at least July 30.

Victoria has recorded eight new locally acquired COVID-19 cases overnight, seven linked to the apartment building in Maribyrnong and one who was a primary close contact of a known case who was in isolation for their infectious period.
Another case was detected in hotel quarantine.
One of the apartment block cases attended the Carlton vs Geelong AFL match at the MCG on July 10. Thousands of people who watched the game, particularly in the Members’ Reserve, will be required to get tested and isolate.

Victoria recorded one new COVID-19 case overnight as residents of an apartment complex in Maribyrnong were told to quarantine for 14 days.
The new case is linked to a Victorian family of four in the City of Hume, in Melbourne’s north, and has been in isolation. Two of the family members were announced as positive coronavirus cases on Monday.
Three members of the family flew into Melbourne from Sydney on July 4 on a red permit, meaning they were required to self-isolate for 14 days and get tested, while a fourth drove back to Melbourne on July 8.
More than 23,400 tests were returned yesterday and 14,384 vaccines administered. There are 20 active cases of COVID-19 in Victoria.

It’s the 12th day in a row that Victoria has had no locally acquired cases.
Victoria is on high alert after a Sydney removalist visited multiple homes and travelled through the state while infectious.
The removalist stayed overnight in Victoria on Thursday, July 8, before driving to South Australia and later returning to NSW, where he tested positive to COVID-19 on Sunday.
Victoria has closed its border with NSW and ACT as the Delta variant outbreak there worsens with 112 cases reported overnight – most of them family members or close contacts of existing cases. 46 cases had been active in the community.
Of the 53 people are in hospital, 25 are under the age of 55 and 14 are under the age of 35. There are 18 people in intensive care units, four of whom are on ventilators.

Victoria has recorded no new cases of COVID-19 in the community for the ninth day in a row. There was just one case detected in hotel quarantine.
There were 25,590 coronavirus tests conducted in Victoria yesterday. There are 21 active cases of COVID-19 in the entire state.
NSW has reported 44 new cases of COVID-19 with 29 of them infectious in the community.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced more restrictions and foreshadowed a longer lockdown in the wake of the rising numbers, saying the NSW faces its biggest challenge since the pandemic began.
A strict stay-at-home order is now in place with 14 people in hospital with COVID, including seven under 35 years of age. One person under 20 is in intensive care.

Victoria has recorded no new local COVID-19 cases for the eighth day in a row as the state prepares to ease restrictions allowing office workers to go mask-free.
The state also recorded no new cases in hotel quarantine in the 24 hours to midnight. There were 27,420 test results processed in the past 24 hours, and 15,875 people received a COVID vaccine.
NSW recorded 38 new cases of community transmission. Eighteen were in isolation for all of their infectious periods, 9 for part of their infectious period and 11 were in the community.
Large numbers of the infections were transmitted inside families or households and the virus is spreading geographically, health authorities said.
Forty people in NSW are in hospital with COVID, 11 in ICU and three on a ventilator.
Coronavirus restrictions will be eased in Melbourne at 11.59pm tonight, bringing the city into line with rules applying to regional Victoria.
Under the new ruled, mask-wearing will no longer be mandated in schools for students and staff or at workplaces where there is no public interaction, such as offices and factories.
They will still be required in indoor, public-facing settings and must be carried at all times.
Sports and entertainment venues will be allowed to welcome back crowds of up to 75 per cent capacity; up to 40,000 people in outdoor stadiums, and up to 2000 people in some theatres.
Density limits at hospitality venues, gyms, community facilities, creative studios and places of worship are being increased to one person per two square metres,

Victoria has recorded no new local cases of COVID-19 for seven consecutive days as coronavirus restrictions are being eased across the state.
Masks will no longer required in offices. Metropolitan density limits at venues, such as gyms, hospitality and places of worship, will also be reduced to one person per two square metres with no overarching cap provided there is someone ensuring people are checking-in to the venue.
Public events will also be allowed to have larger crowd numbers. Outdoor stadiums can operate at 75 per cent capacity up to 40,000 people. Indoor stadiums can operate at a 7500-person cap while theatres have a 2000-person cap.
Dancefloors will also be allowed to operate provided there is a COVID marshal. However, there can be no more than 50 people on the dancefloor at any time.
The new restrictions will be in place for two weeks.
There were 27,498 test results processed overnight, and more than 15,784 people received their vaccine doses.
Sydney will go into another week of lockdown after 27 more cases were reported today. Only 13 of them were in isolation. The result came after more than 45,000 tests.
Queensland has recorded just one new locally acquired case of COVID overnight.
The Victorian Government is advising Victorians not to travel to red and orange zones, which include greater Sydney and the ACT.

Victoria has recorded no local COVID-19 cases overnight ahead of a meeting of National cabinet at which Premier Daniel Andrews will push for a slashing of arrivals.
There are three more cases in hotel quarantine after 24,726 coronavirus tests were carried out. There are now 32 active cases of COVID-19 across the state.
In NSW 31 new cases were reported after 74,000 tests. Twelve of the cases have been active in the community. There are now 172 cases in the outbreak with three in intensive care.
In Queensland Brisbane and Moreton Bay will remain in lockdown for another 24 hours after three new community transmission cases were reported.

Termed ‘Vaccinate, Prepare, Plan’, phase 1 will see the implementation of: the national vaccine program, with one million doses delivered in the past 8 days and 3.5 million in the past month; a temporary reduction in the influx by half because of the risks associated with the virulence of the COVID-19 delta strain; more people arriving through the Howard Springs facility; lockdowns used only as a last resort; home quarantine for vaccinated returning travellers, and; preparations for the booster vaccine
Phase 2
This is the ‘Post Vaccine’ phase which will arrive when a to-be-determined proportion of the population (likely to be 80 per cent) is vaccinated.
It will see an easing of lockdowns and border closures as well as fewer restrictions on inbound caps for unvaccinated travellers and much larger caps of vaccinated inbound travellers.
It will also allow for more economic and student visa holders to arrive.

Termed ‘Consolidation’, this period will see COVID-19 managed like other infectious diseases such as the flu.
There will be no lockdowns, booster vaccinations underway, vaccinated residents exempt from all restrictions, including for travel.
Phase 4
This is the ‘Post Vaccination’ phase where life returns to near normal.
It would include more travel bubbles established with other countries.
The Prime Minister said the timeline on these phases would be determined by modelling indicating the level of population vaccine take up needed to safely open up.

Two new community cases were reported in Queensland – one linked to the Portuguese restaurant outbreak and another who worked at the check-in counter at the international airport.
Another healthcare worker at Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital has tested positive to COVID-19, among 24 new cases reported overnight. Almost 60,000 tests were returned.
It comes as more than a hundred patients and staff at two Sydney hospitals are in isolation after an unvaccinated student nurse who worked across multiple wards tested positive on Wednesday.
